The Revenants
I AIN’T AFRAID OF DYING ANYMORE.
WE HAVE DONE IT ALREADY
This collection is referred to a traditional ceremony in Iran.
Gel Mali is a tradition common among the people of Luristan in which they spread mud on their bodies. This tradition is mainly done in different mourning ceremonies like losing family members or in religious rituals, especially Muharram. In Ashura, the western provinces of Iran such as Luristan, Ilam, and Kermanshah hold this ceremony, people rub the mud on their shoulders and head as a symbol of showing the depth of their grief, but in Khoram Abbad, people rub it on their whole bodies.
Some of them do not remove the mud from their body till the end of the night to participate in the mourning ceremony of Sham-e Ghariban (the evening of the 10th day of Muharram).
